Movie Opener Brainstorming & Research
Rise - There were a lot of close-ups, and they wanted to dwell on one specific object constantly throughout the movie beginning. It showed the guy playing soccer from various different perspectives, and while this was a cool effect, I felt that it took up too much of the opening. The final scene, in which the two individuals were shown in extreme close-up, made me wonder what their history was and why they seemed mad at each other.
Dear Lover - The music and backdrop, in the beginning, are perfect for the romance concept. The camera angles are excellent, however, the lighting may be improved. There could've also been less voice-over and more
Dare to Thrill - The video starts off with a lot of risky action and well-placed music. The point and actions, however, get convoluted as the video proceeds.
Always Watching - I feel like the acting could be better. I know they are just students, but the video as a whole was decent. With so many abrupt cuts in the video, it was difficult to follow the tale. Although it is clear what genre they are aiming for, the delivery could have been better.
The Blue Boar - I really liked the camera angles in this first scene. My favorite scenes were when the mother was speaking and the camera was only focused on her mouth, and when the girl's reaction was captured by only photographing her face. It was also great how it had a musical. It was like a high tier production team.
White Coat - The low-key lighting, combined with the chosen sound effects, added to the suspense was cool. The build-up of suspense from the fog, low-key lighting, offsetting music, close-up shots, and the final picture where the man looks straight into the camera looked like it was from a high budget movie. This encouraged me to work as well as this films product.
Stalker - Stalkers is a strange horror film in which an individual is pursued by an unknown source. At the very end, we witness the character run away and get into her car.
Nostalgia - I appreciate how the transitions were and how it cut back and forth between the picture and the individuals in the beginning. I might even do this in my film.
Summary - The same motifs of diegetic noises and repetitive melodies in all of these opening films inspired me to use such symbolic aspects in the beginning. The lighting and Mise En Scene costuming, as well as the suspense and character connections, created a nice outlight for thinking.
